Chief Warrant Officer 2 David A. Myers, Bandmaster

CommandershimDavid A. Myers holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Middle Level Education from the University of Vermont. He has been active in Middle Level curriculum development, interdisciplinary teaching, teaching advisories and development of an instrumental music portfolio assessment process. He has co-authored articles for professional journals and presented several workshops on these topics.

Mr. Myers has been a composer of band music since 1985 with over fifty works to date including several commission works. His works are published by Cimarron Music and Productions, Bourne Co. and Boosey and Hawkes, Inc. Mr. Myers’ skills as a composer are based in great part on his extensive experience as a band director in Vermont schools. He has studied composition with Julius Williams, and received instruction from Dr. Quincy Hilliard, Jerry Nowak, and the gifted band composer, Clare Grundman.

Mr. Myers is active throughout New England as a guest conductor, composer, clinician, adjudicator and performer. He is currently the instrumental music instructor at Shelburne Community School, Shelburne, Vt. He has developed a program of 270 students, three concert bands, and over twenty small ensembles. He has received several honors for his work in Shelburne including listings in Who’s Who in American Education and the prestigious Governor’s Commendation for Excellence in the Arts and Community Service presented by Governor Dean in 1991.

During Mr. Myers' tenure, he has performed the duties of Percussion Section Leader, Stage Band Director and Staff Composer/Arranger. Mr. Myers received his appointment at the Warrant Officer Candidate School, Fort Rucker, Alabama during the summer of 1995 and assumed the duties of Bandmaster/Commander of the 40th Army Band in December, 1996.
