Functional Area 30 Qualification Course (RC)

The FA30 Qualification Course (Reserve Component) offered is a one year, 3 phase course covering Information Engagement Operations.

Phase I (IO 101) is approximately 40 hours of self-paced web based distance learning.

Phase II is 6 months of IDT in a virtual classroom (from your home or office).

Phase III is a 15 day resident exercise held at Ft. Leavenworth in conjunction with the active duty’s FA30 course.

Field grade officers are eligible for qualification in Functional Area 30.

Graduates receive an Information Operations Proponent diploma and DA Form 1059 (Academic Evaluation Report) to document their completion of the course.

The course is designed for field grade officers who are assigned or will be assigned as strategic-level IO planners (division, corps, theater, etc.)  It develops FA30 officers to successfully serve their commands on staffs at brigade through corps level.

Waivers:

Company grade officers are eligible to apply to attend the FA 30 Course, and the IO Battalion Training Division Chief will consider their applications on a case by case basis.

Warrant officers and senior NCOs who need to be trained as strategic-level IO planners are eligible to request a rank/grade waiver, which the IO Battalion Training Division Chief will consider on a case by case basis.
Students who have completed an Army or Joint IO course sanctioned by the U.S. Army Information Proponent, or who have functioned in an IO position for a minimum of 1 year during the 36 months preceding their FA 30 enrollment date may submit a request to waive completion of IO 101 to the IO Battalion Training Division Chief, who will consider such requests on a case by case basis.

Waiver requests must be in memorandum format, with endorsements by the chain of command, and supporting documentation must be attached.

The Training Division Chief will grant the waiver, deny the waiver, require more documentation, or grant a conditional waiver subject to passing the IO 101 end of course exam.

Students granted a waiver will still be responsible for satisfying all other requirements for starting Phase II.

Master's degree credits

In 2011 Norwich University, the US Army Information Proponent and 3-124th
Information Operations Battalion reached an agreement that enables Norwich
to accept completion of the FA 30 Course as part of the requirements of an
Information Operations (IO)-related master's degree.

The distance learning Master of Science in Public Administration (MPA) has a
concentration in "International Development and Influence Studies."
Graduates who completed the FA 30 Course after 2007 can receive 12 credits
