WWIIA Brief Summary: Another War that is well documented throughout the Web where we only wish to provide a short overview! World War II was officially fought between 1939 and 1945. Germany's re-emergence as a world power in the late 30's was one of many individual events leading up to it. It is generally accepted that the Second World War was initiated when Germany invaded Poland. From this point on Germany's aggression eventually involved all of Europe. At the same time, during the 30's and 40's the Japanese had invaded China and Indochina. This aggression by the Japanese, and ultimately a pact with the German government, was to cause a total global war to ensue. The United States became involved in the War when the Japanese bombed our naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7th, 1941. Following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor the United States declared war on Japan. Three days later, after Germany and Italy declared war on The U.S. we became fully engaged in the Second World War. On 8 May, 1945, Germany surrendered to the Allied forces. A quick end to the Asian front was accomplished after atomic bombs were dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan surrendered on 14 August, 1945 and the Second World War came to an end.
